Houston quote comparison worksheet
Compare the scope before you compare the price
Enter two or three water-damage quotes. The tool normalizes the totals by affected area, shows scope differences, and identifies the lowest stated total without treating an incomplete quote as the better deal.
What makes two water-damage quotes comparable?
A total is useful only when the underlying work is clear. Ask each provider to identify the affected rooms and square footage, materials being removed, equipment type and expected billing basis, monitoring visits, debris disposal, cleaning, and whether reconstruction is included. A lower mitigation-only total should not be compared directly with a quote that also includes drywall, flooring, paint, or cabinet repairs.
Treat equipment duration as an assumption, not a promised finish date. Request the change-order process in writing and ask what measurement will support stopping equipment or changing the removal boundary.
Questions to ask about a large price difference
- Are all quotes using the same affected area and water source?
- Which quantities are measured, estimated, or billed by actual usage?
- Are containment, disposal, taxes, permits, and finish repairs included?
- What can trigger added work, and who must approve it?
- Does the scope explain how drying progress will be documented?
Keep the comparison independent
